Bilateral meeting between the judiciaries of the UK and Ireland

Bilateral meeting between the judiciaries of the UK and Ireland

In December 2020, members of the UK judiciary took part in a virtual exchange with the Supreme Court of Ireland. This is part of a long-standing arrangement between the UK and Ireland judiciaries to hold regular exchanges.

The UK delegation included Lord Reed and Lord Hamblen, Chief Justice of England and Wales Lord Burnett, the President of the Court of Session Lord Carloway, the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland Sir Declan Morgan, and Lord Justice Flaux. They were joined by Chief Justice of Ireland Mr Justice Frank Clarke, Lord Justice Treacy, Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley, and Ms Justice Marie Baker in a discussion in 'Judicial considerations arising from the COVD-19 Pandemic'.

The session began with tributes being paid to the late Lord Kerr, who sadly passed away the day before the meeting. You can watch Lord Reed's tribute to Lord Kerr here.
