Information for members of the public wishing to observe Ammori v Secretary of State for the Home Department

Details for those wishing to observe the hearing of R (on the application of Ammori) v Secretary of State for the Home Department

Access to the Court

As with all Supreme Court cases, this appeal will be open to the public, except for the afternoon of 5th November, which will be closed to the public and press. Due to the high number of advocates and solicitors expected to attend, there will be no seats available to the public in Courtroom 1. However, there will be seats available in an alternative courtroom, from where members of the public can watch the cases via a live feed from Courtroom 1.

In the morning, a queuing system will be put in place outside of the Supreme Court building, with those first in the queue being offered tickets for seats in the alternative courtroom. Once that courtroom is full, no further members of the public will be permitted inside the building. The Court building will open to the public at 10.00am. At that point those with tickets will be permitted to access the building, proceed through airport-style security, and make their way to the alternative courtroom specified on their ticket.

What to expect on arrival

All visitors will be searched on arrival and will need to pass through the Court’s airport style security before proceeding to the alternative courtroom. Please see the Court’s security information for more information on what to expect and specifically items which must not be brought into the building

Please note that, in line with the Court's usual practice, items of clothing or other materials bearing messages that undermine the dignity of the Court or which seek to interfere with the proper administration of justice, will not be permitted in the building.

Please also be aware there are no cloakroom facilities at the Supreme Court, and members of the public are asked not to bring bulky items of luggage into the building.

Watch online

Given the likely demand for places, and in order to make the case as accessible as possible, we remind the public that footage of proceedings will also be streamed live via the Supreme Court website.
