Pop-up exhibition: 100 years of women at the Bar

Pop-up exhibition: 100 years of women at the Bar

On display until 5 January 2024

Come and celebrate 100 years of women at the Bar with a new pop-up exhibition in the lobby of the UK Supreme Court.

The exhibition will be on display for Autumn 2022, and features judges and other woman pioneers in the legal profession over the past 100 years. In particular, it celebrates the centenary of Ivy Williams’ achievement as the first woman to be called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1922.

The new exhibition complements a permanent artwork on display in the Supreme Court building which also celebrates women in law. ‘Legacy’ by Catherine Yass, on display in Courtroom 2, commemorated another centenary when it was unveiled in 2019: 100 years since the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act. The First 100 Years initiative is behind both the new pop-up and ‘Legacy’.

Visitors can view the pop-up exhibition and the artwork about women in law during our normal opening hours, 9.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. There is no need to book.

Visitors can also enter the courtrooms and view our interactive exhibition on the lower ground floor.
