What is the Supreme Court? Why was it established in 2009? And what issues does it hear about?

These general introductory videos give an overview of the UK’s highest court. They explore the role and workings of the Supreme Court as the final court of appeal in the United Kingdom. They explain the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, the kinds of cases that are heard here, and the importance of an independent judiciary.

Taking a look around the Court’s home in the grand former Middlesex Guildhall, in Parliament Square, the films also give a glimpse of what you can expect to see on a visit to the Court.

These videos are just part of a range of learning resources designed to aid teaching in the classroom about the law, as well as to complement educational visits here.

If you are a teacher or student interested in an educational visit, please see our Education page for further information.
